About the PSSSB typing test
Posts such as Clerk, Clerk-cum-Data Entry Operator, Legal Clerk and similar posts filled by the Punjab Subordinate Services Selection Board usually have a qualifying typing test after the written exam. You type one passage in Punjabi and one in English on a computer. Marks are not added to your merit; you only need to qualify.
- Punjabi: Unicode Raavi font on the INSCRIPT keyboard. See the layout chart and the Raavi typing guide.
- English: a normal QWERTY keyboard.
- Standard: 30 words per minute with at least 92% accuracy in each language.
- Time: 10 minutes per passage in this mock. Check the time and rules in your own notice, because they can change between recruitments.
This mock follows the format and scoring in published Punjab typing-test notices. It is an independent practice tool, not the official test.

How to prepare for the PSSSB typing test
- Learn the Punjabi keys first. Work through the free Raavi typing lessons until you can type every letter and matra without looking. The INSCRIPT keyboard chart helps while you learn.
- Fix accuracy before speed. The PSSSB typing test fails more candidates on accuracy than on speed. Read common Punjabi typing mistakes and aim for 95% accuracy in practice.
- Build speed with daily practice. Spend 20 to 30 minutes a day on exam-style passages, following the plan in how to increase Punjabi typing speed.
- Do not ignore English. You have to qualify in both languages. See the English typing test tips.
- Take this PSSSB typing mock test every few days. Use the full Punjabi and English test so you get used to the timer, the chunked passage and typing without live error marks.
On the day of the PSSSB typing test
- Check that the Punjabi keyboard is on before the timer starts: press k and you should see ਕ.
- Type at a steady pace. A wrong matra or a missing addak counts as a full mistake, so careful typing scores higher than fast typing with errors.
- Keep one space between words. A joined or split word is a half mistake.
- Do not stop to re-read the whole passage. Keep your eyes on the reference text and keep going.

How this mock scores you
- Full mistake: a wrong, missing or extra word. In Punjabi a wrong matra, addak or half letter makes the whole word wrong.
- Half mistake: a spacing error, where two words are joined or one is split.
- Error characters = mistakes × 5, and net characters = gross characters − error characters.
- Gross speed = gross characters ÷ 5 ÷ minutes. Accuracy = net characters ÷ gross characters × 100.

Frequently asked questions
What typing speed is needed for the PSSSB clerk test?
Most PSSSB clerk-type recruitments ask for 30 words per minute in Punjabi and 30 words per minute in English, with at least 92% accuracy. Always confirm the figure in the notice for your post.
Which font and keyboard are used for the Punjabi typing test?
Punjabi is typed in the Unicode Raavi font on the INSCRIPT keyboard, the default Punjabi keyboard in Windows. This mock test uses the same layout.
Is Backspace allowed in the PSSSB typing test?
It depends on the notice. This mock lets you practise both ways: the standard tests allow Backspace and the strict mock switches it off.
How is net speed calculated?
Every full mistake costs 5 characters and every half mistake 2.5 characters. Net characters are gross characters minus these error characters, and net speed is net characters divided by 5 and by the minutes taken.
Is this the official PSSSB test?
No. This is a free, independent practice test that follows the format and scoring published in Punjab typing-test notices. It is not connected with PSSSB.
Is the PSSSB typing test qualifying or counted in merit?
It is usually qualifying only. Your typing marks are not added to the merit list, but you must reach the required speed and accuracy to be selected. Check the notice for your post.
How long is the PSSSB typing test?
The time is set in each notice. This mock gives 10 minutes for the Punjabi passage and 10 minutes for the English passage, and also has a quick 5-minute Punjabi test.
How can I practise PSSSB Punjabi typing for free?
Start with the free Raavi lessons on this site to learn the INSCRIPT keys, then take this PSSSB typing mock test regularly and track your net speed and accuracy on the progress page.
Can I practise the PSSSB typing test on a mobile phone?
Yes, the mock works on phones with an on-screen Punjabi keyboard, but the real test is on a computer, so practise on a physical keyboard whenever you can.
